The project aims to devise a ‘manual of best practices’ that should facilitate the action of public authorities and private institutions interested in the restoration and valorisation of historical heritage located in areas around historical centres and cities of art, as well as in rural areas. The project focuses on immovable properties as well as their building characteristics and the possible preservation of traditional building techniques.
During the first meeting which recently took place in Gent, issues were raised regarding the re-use of architectural heritage, as well as the difficult financial situation faced by public authorities trying to fit restoration costs within their budgets.
The presence among the project’s partners of public authorities (Ministry of the Flemish Community, Cork County Council, Somogy County Council, City Council of Ubeda, Regional Council of Mallorca, Municipality of Birzai, Panevezys County Governors Administration), universities (Gent, Cardiff, Vilnius) and agencies for local development (among which the CII PISTOIA) indicates the attempt to find a meeting point between different views, all working towards the same objective of preventing the dissolution of an irreplaceable cultural heritage and the necessity of encouraging socio-economical development in these areas of competence.
